A sailing society in the UK is trying to track down a Planet News image …
Dear Sir,
I am hoping to track down a Planet News photograph of the Thames sailing barge Barbara Jean under sail in Gravesend Reach, River Thames, in the 1930s. The shot shows the port side of the vessel with mainsail, foresail and topsail set, the latter emblazoned with the ‘X’ logo of her owners R.& W. Paul Ltd., the Ipswich millers. At the time the photograph was taken she was under the command of the late Capt. Charlie Webb. His recorded recollections have been passed to us to include in our newsletter, which would be much enhanced by images of the craft he served aboard. Please let me know if you are able to help.
